The GBIF Nodes Committee has, since 2008, promoted regional level activities as a way to empower Node Managers to participate more actively in GBIF. Two rounds of regional Nodes meetings have been held in 2008 and 2010 that have proven an effective setting for identifying common needs, priorities and opportunities, based on existing regional collaboration processes.
The Taiwan Biodiversity Information Facility (TaiBIF) will host the 2012 Asian Regional Meeting of the GBIF Participant Nodes in Taipei on 28-30 June 2012. The node managers and other participants will identify scientific issues for collaborative projects in Asia, identify issues and targets for inter-ministerial collaboration and scheme at side meeting of GB19 for Head of Delegations of Asia, discuss the needs and preparation for regional mentoring program, discuss how to outreach GBIF data and activity to International Long Term Ecological Research Network (ILTER) and Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), etc.
